Ohio rates every public school on a five-star scale across multiple dimensions of student performance. SCPA earned 5 stars in both Gap Closing and Progress, placing it in the top tier of schools in the state for moving all students forward, including those who arrive behind. In the 2023–24 school year, the school's Performance Index score was 72.1. One year later, it reached 80.4, a jump of more than 8 points. That's a greater than 20 percent increase over two years, a rate that puts SCPA in the top 10 percent of Ohio charter schools. South Columbus Preparatory Academy at Southfield is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade in Columbus, Ohio.  SCPA is built around high-academic instruction, which means the focus is on mastery, not on covering material and moving on. Teachers work from where each student actually is. If a child arrives in third grade reading at a first-grade level, the goal isn't to pretend otherwise. It's to figure out exactly what that child needs and get to work. Reading, writing, and math aren't treated as things to get through before the "real" learning starts. They're the method. Academic growth is measured student by student, not class by class, and teachers are in direct communication with families when something needs to change. That's what the progress ratings reflect. That commitment runs deeper than curriculum design — every student at SCPA is expected to reach his or her individual potential, and the school builds the structure to make that a real expectation, not a slogan. It's a publicly funded school. There's no tuition, no fees, and no cost to families. Enrollment is open to any student who lives in Ohio.

South Columbus Preparatory Academy at Southfield is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by the Charter School Specialists, which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability. We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States.
